Ghouls Gulch Haunted House Von Critter Experience
At my home in Ghouls Gulch Haunted House, Colorado springs CO, I have a varied and interesting collection of my favorite creatures in the Von Critter Experience. Without fail these creatures fall into the category of invertebrate. (creatures without a skeletal structure) Of the invertebrates I tend to lend myself to the creepy crawlies; tarantulas, scorpions, centipedes, and roaches. All of these creatures are amazing in there own way and deserve to be investigated. I promise you, with a little bit of research into each individual species, you will become an inverti-nut just like me. The tarantula is a particular favorite of mine.
The world tarantula comes from a dance that would have overcome you during the dark ages if you were bitten by a particular spider, the “Tarantella” dance. The funny part about this is, the spider that would have bit you was not a tarantula at all, but a spider. Yes there is a difference. Tarantulas are a primitive version of the spider. There is a definite difference in the anatomy…conversation for a later time. And the symptom of the dance… more than likely an excuse to “shake it” during a very restrictive time. Tarantulas can vary in size from the size of a dime to 11 inches across (like my beloved Salmon Bird Eater will grow up to be). Males live to 5-6 years old and females live to 20-25 years old. There blood is cupric based, meaning it uses copper instead of iron for the O2 molecules to join too (makes it green too) and there lungs are similar to a book if you hold it by the spine and let the pages hang down.
These are just a few facts about one of my favorite little pet species. if you would like to learn more I encourage you to tuck your fangs in, motor up your 8 little legs, and come on down to see; Palm, our first lady tarantula, Weezer, one of newest and feistiest members and Chewy, our oldest male(6 years old now) just to mention a few.
